7 reasons why linen curtains are the biggest interior trend right now
From understated “quiet luxury” to bedrooms that finally get truly dark, linen is making a quiet comeback. Here are seven reasons why. Reason 7 isn’t about the fabric, but about the risk that makes almost everyone hesitate when ordering made-to-measure curtains: what if you measure incorrectly? That’s exactly the reason that ultimately wins over the doubters.

1. Linen brings a sense of calm to a room that synthetic fabrics cannot match.
Linen drapes differently from polyester. The fiber is heavier and more irregular, which makes the fabric hang in deep, soft folds instead of clinging flat against the window. That is exactly the effect behind the current preference for natural, understated interiors: texture you can see and feel, without needing a pattern or color.
Norsemaison’s Pure Linen is 100% linen at 160 g/m². For those who want the natural look but need more structure, choose a linen blend: Palermo (290 g/m²), Marseille with refined vertical stripes (270 g/m²), or Evora (220 g/m²).
If you want to filter light rather than block it, there are two linen sheers: Elegance Vitrage (44% linen, 100 g/m²) with a subtle sheen, and Milano Vitrage, highly transparent and available in roll widths of up to 310 cm—enough for a wide window without a seam in the middle.
2. There isn’t just one linen curtain, but a variant for every window.
The heading determines how the fabric hangs, and therefore the look of the entire room. Norsemaison makes five types, all made to measure and all available in the same eight fabric collections:
- Wave curtains — a sleek, even wave along a track. Calm and modern, and by far the most popular option.
- Pleated curtains — with a single, double, or triple pleat. The more pleats, the fuller and more classic the curtain looks.
- Eyelet curtains — with rings threaded onto a rod. Informal and easy to hang yourself.
- Tab-top curtains — with fabric loops threaded onto the rod. The most understated hanging style: you see almost nothing but fabric.
- Roman blinds — a flat panel that folds up in horizontal sections. Ideal for smaller windows, kitchens, and bathrooms.
There are also linen tiebacks for holding the curtains open. You configure every option in the same way: choose the fabric, enter your measurements, and indicate whether you want blackout lining.
3. And if you do want it completely dark, that’s also possible
In bedrooms, it’s not about ambiance but about sleep. That’s why the same linen curtains are available with a blackout lining. Luna reduces light by up to 80%; Eclipse blocks it completely. Both weigh 140 g/m² and drape smoothly with the curtain itself.
The extra layer does more than block light. It also improves insulation: less heat escapes in winter, and less heat gets in during summer. From the front, you still see natural linen.

4. Linen is not difficult to care for, despite this persistent misconception.
Linen has a reputation for being delicate: dry-cleaning only, endlessly prone to creasing, and definitely not something you should wash yourself. In practice, very little of that is true. Norsemaison linen curtains can simply be washed in the washing machine on a delicate cycle at 30°C.
They can then be ironed. If you hang the fabric back up while it is slightly damp, most creases will disappear on their own; if you want a smoother finish, you can run an iron over it. That is all the maintenance required—no special products, no annual treatment. Linen is therefore just as easy to care for as any other curtain fabric. The only difference is how it looks.

5. Custom-made doesn’t have to be expensive at all
Custom-made curtains are known to be an expensive purchase, and that is rarely because of the fabric. It is because of the sales model: an advisor arrives in a company car, measures up, and provides advice. Those hours, kilometres, and overhead costs are built into the price shown on the final quotation.
Norsemaison does things differently. With the measuring instructions on the website, everyone measures up themselves: step by step, for each type of finish, with the correct allowances included. No professional is needed—just a tape measure and a few minutes. The savings on sales costs go directly to the customer—which is why custom-made curtains here start at €19 per metre, in any width and height up to 310 cm.
Everything is handmade in our own workshop and sent directly to the customer without intermediaries; allow four to six weeks. If you order two or more curtains, a 10% discount is automatically applied in the shopping cart.

6. Whether curtains hang straight depends on the finishing touches.
This is the detail that never shows up in photos but makes an immediate difference at home. Each curtain has a neat hem along the bottom and a sewn-in lead weight. This weight ensures that the fabric hangs straight and stays in place, even in a draft or when someone walks past.
Without this added weight, linen curtains will eventually ripple and stick out. Hooks are included; with pleated curtains, you can still adjust the height by up to 5 cm afterward using adjustable hooks.

7. And then the reason that convinces most doubters
When it comes to made-to-measure curtains, the hesitation is almost never about the fabric or the price. It comes down to one question: what if I measure incorrectly? Made-to-measure curtains cannot be exchanged, and for many people, that realization is enough to postpone their order for months.
That’s why Norsemaison removes this risk with its Perfect-fit guarantee. Are your curtains too wide or too long? Have them taken in or shortened by a local tailor or upholsterer, and Norsemaison will reimburse 75% of the alteration costs, up to a maximum of €100. In addition, all products come with a two-year warranty, and all fabrics are machine washable.
It’s the reason you won’t find in a product photo—and precisely the reason people ultimately feel confident enough to order.

Start with the fabric, not the measuring tape
The most common mistake is choosing a color online and hoping it looks right in your home. Screens display color differently, and texture cannot be judged at all from a photo.
That’s why you should order seven swatches first and lay them out at home: in daylight and under artificial light, next to your sofa and flooring. Only once you’ve held the fabric in your hands should measuring be the next step.
